Fischer Random Chess, also known as Chess960, is a variant where the starting positions of the major pieces are randomized. This takes player out of the many prepared opening positions of standard chess, resulting in more spontaneous and surprising games. The resulting matches are generally light-hearted and social, but still full of challenges.
